Nithyananda is known for his controversial past and was missing for a few years. Suddenly he announced his new island nation Kailasa in 2019 and stated that Kailasa is formed for protecting Hinduism. While many rubbished it as some publicity stunt, he continued to post videos and updates about Kailasa. He even announced launching a new currency for Kailasa on Vinayagar Chaturthi.
